“I don’t need a hard disk in my computer if I can get to the server faster… carrying around these non-connected computers is byzantine by comparison.”
Steve Jobs, Co-founder, CEO and Chairman of Apple Inc.
Cloud computing simply means that instead of the computer hardware and software sitting on your desktop, or somewhere inside your business network, it is a service provided by another company and accessed seamlessly, over the Internet. The information is stored on physical servers maintained and controlled by a cloud computing provider.
It doesn’t really matter to you as the user, where the hardware and software is located and how it all works – it’s just somewhere up in the nebulous “cloud” that the Internet represents.
Most of us, without even realising, are using cloud computing every day!
